Addressing Emerging Challenges in Interfaith Relations through Quranic Teachings in the 21st Century
Abstract
In the 21st century, the world faces significant interfaith challenges resulting from globalization, migration, religious extremism, and sociopolitical misunderstandings. These challenges often give rise to conflict, prejudice, and mistrust among religious communities. Amidst this backdrop, the Holy Qur'an offers a timeless, universally applicable framework for promoting peace, mutual respect, and coexistence among people of diverse faiths. This paper explores how Quranic teachings can effectively address emerging issues in interfaith relations by focusing on key values such as religious pluralism, dialogue, tolerance, and peace. The Qur'an acknowledges and embraces religious diversity as part of Allah’s divine wisdom, encouraging believers to engage in respectful dialogue and cooperation. By examining classical tafsir (exegesis) and modern interpretations, the study demonstrates how Islamic principles rooted in Quranic ethics can serve as a foundation for constructive interfaith engagement. It also critiques the misuse of religious texts to justify violence and emphasizes the Quran’s stance against corruption, coercion, and injustice. Through these insights, the paper provides a roadmap for applying Quranic guidance to contemporary interfaith issues, fostering global harmony and ethical pluralism. Ultimately, this research underscores that the Qur'an does not only tolerate religious diversity but actively encourages cooperation and harmony across faiths. Its teachings serve as a vital resource for cultivating a just, inclusive, and peaceful global society.
